Caregivers want the best for their youth as they transition to adulthood. One of the most common ways utilized by families in Utah is guardianship (full or limited). As you may have heard, Supported Decision-Making (SDM), is being proposed as an alternative to guardianship in the 2024 Legislative Session.
Most people naturally utilize this process when asking for advice or considering a major decision. It allows adults to make their own decision and to receive only the support they want. Families in Utah need a legal framework for SDMto support their loved one with a disability. SDM is a needed resource and can be used alone or in conjunction with a guardianship order.
